The idea of a bowling green at Brinscall was formed by a group of local members and was officially opened on the 9th April 1983 when the first ever "Mick Woods Trophy" was played for. This is still one of the major competitions amongst other named trophies held annually by the club throughout the summer. Competitions are played by the members-Ladies,Gents and Mixed. Brinscall has 4 league teams, 2 in the Chorley League and 2 in the Darwen League. The Bowling season runs from April to October and as well as "Serious Bowls" we have "Fun Days Bowling" and various social events through out the year in the clubhouse with entertainment and dancing. New members are always welcome, the current membership fee for the section is a very reasonable £21.50. Adults £10.00. Juniors For further information on this section please contact the secretary, Bowling Section at the Clubhouse.

Bowls News February

WELL DONE BRUCE FOR HAVING THE GREEN OPEN SO EARLY!!

The AGM in February saw a number of familiar faces re-elected to their posts on the committee but we also welcomed a few new faces to some of the tasks involved in keeping our section running smoothly. The committee is as follows: Chair, Ronnie Bielski; Secretary, Peter Godfrey; treasurer, Bert Bamford; Greenkeeper, Bruce Thorne; Competitions secretary Steve Bolton; General members – Peter Storry, Joy Storry,Ian Waterson, Pat Rossall, Doreen McIver. Brian Carroll and Andy McGinnigle have volunteered to assist Steve with his competition duties.

After some debate, those present at the AGM decided to keep subscriptions as they were last year. We would urge members to pay these to Bert or any committee member as soon as possible. The main club AGM only takes place just before the commencement of League fixtures, so membership fees should similarly be paid as soon as possible after that date.

One important item raised at the AGM was the question of fundraising ; in addition to any assistance from the main club, the bowls committee have already started looking into ways of raising funds and obtaining any available grants. Money has already been earmarked for the purchase of a new mower, which will make the onerous task of maintaining our green easier for Bruce and his helpers and, hopefully, produce an even better surface. We believe we provide an excellent amenity for the whole community and our fund-raising efforts will emphasise this, including providing opportunities for young people to access bowling. Any help or suggestions that members are able to make will be received with open ears and arms!

We were represented at the AGMs of the Darwen League, Chorley League and Chorley Mixed vets League. As last year two teams were entered in the Chorley and Darwen with one in the Vets.

Peter Godfrey and Pat Rossall have been nominated to represent us in the Darwen League merit trophy, the first round of which will be held at Akzo Nobel on Saturday 21st April. Should Pat and Peter scrape through round one they will meet in the second – keep it in the family ! Starred players in the Darwen League will be Peter Godfrey, Bruce Thorne, Ronnie Bielski and Joy Storry. In the Chorley League Peter, Ken Hayes, Dave Birch, Bruce, Joy and Ronnie will be starred. Starred players may only play for the higher placed league team in each case.

I should have the website back too it's former glory in a few day's, had a rather catastrophic failure uploading the website with too many photo's on for the gallery, and not enough web space too put them on. Not to worry all sorted now for the princely sum £2.50 per month, more web space that you can throw a bowl at!
